Class AA Boys

100 Meter Dash
This was a tight one. At about 60 meters, there were 4 guys in a virtual tie. Two pulled away in the final stages, and it was Winfield's Chase Massey edging out Frankfort's Cohen Arbogast for the win by 0.02 seconds, 11.20 to 11.22. Fairmont Senior's Tayvion Thornton took the 3rd spot in 11.33 with Weir's Devan Colson was 4th in 11.37. One of my predicted placers pulled up with an injury in the trials.
RunWV's Current Score: 6 of 8.

200 Meter Dash
It was close coming out of the turn, but Frankfort's Cohen Arbogast pulled away in the final 100 to win convincingly in 22.49. Weir's Devan Colson scored 2nd in 22.78. Philip Barbour's Nate Hulver joined them under 23 seconds with a 22.96 for 3rd. A tight race for 4th saw 4 guys separated by just 0.09 seconds, and it was Elkins' Caleb Ray taking the 4th spot in 23.39. One of my predicted placers did not compete due to injury.
RunWV's Current Score: 13 of 16.

400 Meter Dash
Philip Barbour's Nate Hulver got out really well, but it was Frankfort's Cohen Arbogast charging hard over the last 150 to catch up with about 80 meters to go and pulling away for the win in 50.28. Hulver held the 2nd spot in 50.72. Point Pleasant's Cooper Tatterson joined them under 51 seconds with a 50.92. Winfield took the next two spots with Landon Brumfield and Lincoln Haynes manning the positions. Two of my predicted placers were disqualified for lane violations. One of them would have placed.
RunWV's Current Score: 19 of 24.

800 Meter Run
The Winfield trio went to the front almost immediately, and by the end of the 1st lap, they had an almost 2 second gap on the field. Justin Lipscomb bolted to the early lead and came through in just over 58 seconds. Landon Brumfield was in the 2nd spot in the uppder 58's. Brayden Marshall was in 3rd at 59 seconds. No one else was under 61. PikeView's Matt Murphey was in 4th at 61 with Grafton's M.J. Niggemyer in 5th, Frankfort's Ryan Hughes in 6th, and Pikeview's Tyler Huffman in 7th also at 61 seconds. Liberty Raleigh's Jaden Acord was in 8th at 62 seconds. Lipscomb did not slow down on the 2nd lap. In fact, he sped up, crossing the line in 1:55.35. According to the WVSSAC this is not a State Meet Record. However, the time on their books as the record was a hand time, and they have not converted it. In my eyes, this is a State Meet Record though the books may not show it as such. It will go on the books as the Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Brumfield held the 2nd spot in 1:57.94, and Marshall held the 3rd spot in 1:59.05. They ended almost 3 seconds ahead of the field. Huffman moved up to 4th in the final lap, finishing in 2:01.85. Niggemyer took the 5th spot in 2:02.84. Fairmont Senior's Josiah Brannen closed well to move into 6th in 2:03.27. Hughes held the 7th spot in 2:04.08, and Elkins' Trevor George scored the final position in 2:04.65.
RunWV's Current Score: 25 of 32.

1600 Meter Run
Winfield's Justin Lipscomb immediately bolted to the front of the field and took the first lap aggressively, coming through in 60 seconds. Winfield's Brayden Marshall was the only one remotely close, coming through in 62. Winfield's Landon Brumfield was in 3rd at 65 seconds, just ahead of Grafton's M.J. Niggemyer and Frankfort's Ryan Hughes, who were also at 65 seconds. Keyser's Luca Altobello was in 6th at 66 seconds with Fairmont Senior's Landon Jones was in 7th, and Elkins' Benjamin Tenney ws in 8th, with both also at 66 seconds. The 2nd lap saw Lipscomb extend his lead as he came through in 2:04. Marshall remained in 2nd at 2:08 with Brumfield now in control of 3rd at 2:11. Hughes was in 4th, George in 5th, Altobello in 6th, and Niggemyer in 7th, all at 2:14. Jones was in 8th at 2:16. Lap 3 saw Lipscomb move even further ahead at 3:09. Marshall remained in 2nd at 3:15. In the end, Lipscomb continued to pull away and took the win in 4:13.77. This set a new State Meet Record and the Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Marshall held onto the 2nd spot in 4:22.57, just holding off Brumfield, who was 3rd in 4:23.79. Hughes used a late surge to take 4th place in 4:28.14. George was 5th in 4:28.76. Altobello outdueled Jones for 6th, 4:33.46 to 4:33.58. Grafton's Colson Annon slipped into the 8th spot in the last couple meters, finishing in 4:36.06.
RunWV's Current Score: 31 of 40.

3200 Meter Run
Winfield's Justin Lipscomb and Brayden Marshall started to pull away from the field about 150 meters into the race, and by the end of the 1st lap, they were 4.2 seconds ahead of 3rd place. B.Marshall led the way through lap 1 in 1:06 with Lipscomb matching that time in 2nd. Fairmont Senior's Josiah Brannen was in 3rd at 1:10. Frankfort's Ryan Hughes was in 4th at 1:11 with Keyser's Luca Altobello in 5th, Fairmont Senior's Landon Jones in 6th, Winfield's Trace Marshall in 7th, and Grafton's Colson Annon in 8th, all also crossing in 1:11. After 2 laps, B.Marshall was still in the lead with Lipscomb still with him with both at 2:17. They were 10 seconds ahead of the field. There was a very nice pack that followed. Brannen led that pack at 2:27 with Elkins' Trevor George and Altobello matching that in 4th and 5th, respectively. Hughes was in 6th with Jones 7th, and T.Marshall 8th, each at 2:28. 9th and 10th were also at 2:28. Lap 3 saw B.Marshall continuing to lead at 3:29 with Lipscomb also at 3:29. Altobello was in 5th at 4:54 with George matching that in 6th. T.Marshall was in 7th at 4:56 with Elkins' Benjamin Tenney matching that in 8th. 9th and 10th were also at 4:56. At the end of 5 laps, it was still B.Marshall and Lipscomb with both at 5:50. Hughes was opening a gap in 3rd at 6:03. Jones was in 4th at 6:07. George was in 5th with Altobello in 6th with both at 6:09. T.Marshall was in 7th at 6:11. Tenney was in 8th at 6:12. Right at the end of lap 6, Lipscomb moved to the front with both he and B.Marshall coming through at 6:58. Hughes was in further control of 3r at 6:58. Altobello was in 4th at 7:24. Jones was in 5th at 7:25. George was in 6th at 7:26. T.Marshall was in 7th at 7:28, and Tenney was in 8th at 7:29. On lap 7, Lipcomb made a significant change in pace. He went from 70 on lap 5 and 67.6 on lap 6, down to a 62.7 on lap 7. This opened up a gap and put him in control of the race at 8:01. B.Marshall was in 2nd at 8:06. Hughes remained in control of 3rd in 8:31. Altobello remained in 4th at 8:41 with Jones now matching that time in 5th. George was in 6th at 8:43. T.Marshall was still in 7th at 8:45 with Tenney still in 8th at 8:46. The final lap saw Lipscomb significantly pull away to win in 9:06.77. That gives him the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Brayden Marshall easily held the 2nd spot in 9:20.23, which is the 7th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Hughes held the 3rd spot in 9:42.49. Altobello won the battle for 4th in 9:48.80 with Jones in 5th at 9:49.81. George took the 6th spot in 9:53.66 with Trace Marshall in 7th in 9:58.10. Tenney took the 8th spot in 10:00.75.
RunWV's Current Score: 39 of 48.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Point Pleasant's Reece Hunt led almost from the gun and took the win in 15.26. Fairmont Senior's Tayvion Thornton was 2nd in 15.40. Roane's Lane Watson edged East Fairmont's Jaden Dawson for 3rd, 15.55 to 15.58. Bluefield's Milton Byard joined them under 16 seconds in 5th with a 15.78. One of my predicted placers made the finals but false started. I would have had all 8 on this one.
RunWV's Current Score: 46 of 56.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
This one was close throughout, and Roane's Lane Watson took the lead shortly after coming out of the turn and held it the rest of the way, taking the win in 39.51. Point Pleasant's Reece Hunt led much of the race and took the 2nd spot in 39.98. Point Pleasant's Evan Bailes was 3rd in 40.79. Sissonville's Jaunti Evans and East Fairmont's Jaden Dawson battled each other in the 1st heat and fought their way to 4th and 5th place in 41.25 and 41.42, respectively. Point Pleasant's Grant Barton was 6th in 41.49 with Poca's Peyton Cook in 7th in 41.79 and Winfield's Myles Gurnee in 8th in 41.87. The top 9 were all under 42 seconds and the top 11 were all under 42.25.
RunWV's Current Score: 53 of 64.

4x100 Meter Relay
The Weir group of Sycere Stevenson, Jacob Taylor, Landon Haught, and Devan Colson got away late, taking the win in 43.80. This gives them the 10th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Bluefield scored the 2nd spot from lane 7 in 44.43. Keyser was 3rd in 44.57. Point Pleasant nipped Frankfort for 4th 44.64 to 44.65. Winfield was also under 45 seconds in 6th with a 44.88.
RunWV's Current Score: 60 of 72.

4x200 Meter Relay
Frankfort and Point Pleasant made the final exchange at almost exactly the same time, but Frankfort had 200 Meter champion Cohen Arbogast on the anchor, and they pulled away to win by over a second with the unit of Conner Corwell, Charlie Fairley, Keiton Nestor, and Cohen Arbogast taking the win in 1:31.80. Point Pleasant took the 2nd spot in 1:32.90. Weir just got by Keyser for 3rd in the last few meters, tking the spot in 1:33.61 to Keyser's 1:33.69.
RunWV's Current Score: 67 of 80.

4x400 Meter Relay
Philip Barbour held the lead through the 1st leg at 52 seconds with Winfield in 2nd at 53. I think Keyser was in 3rd. After 2 legs, it was still Philip Barbour in the lead at 1:45 with Winfield in 2nd at 1:46. However, even though they crossed the line in the lead, Philip Barbour had not completed the exchange. And they did not complete the exchange, shooting Winfield into the lead and Philip Barbour out of the race. There were 3 in the race for 3rd. On leg 3, Winfield took control of the race on this leg, coming through at 2:38. There were 4 in the mix for the 2nd spot at this point. I now Point Pleasant and Frankfort came through at 2:45. Keyser was in the mix. I think Lewis was the other. On the final leg, Winfield easily held the top spot, with the group of Lincoln Haynes, Brayden Marshall, Justin Lipscomb, and Myles Gurnee taking the win in 3:33.90. Point Pleasant took the 2nd spot in 3:37.76 with Frankfort in 3rd in 3:38.61. Poca scored 4th place from the 1st heat in 3:40.47. Keyser took the 5th spot in 3:41.61, edging out Shady Spring's 3:41.81 from the 1st heat for the spot. Lewis was 7th in 3:42.52 with Weir taking the final spot from the 1st heat in 3:42.80.
RunWV's Current Score: 73 of 88.

4x800 Meter Relay
Winfield shot out to an early lead on a 1:57.9 lead leg from Landon Brumfield. Elkins was in 2nd at 2:05. I think it was PikeView in 3rd, Frankfort in 4th, and Weir in 5th with each at 2:08. PikeView and Weir could be in the opposite order. Keyser was in 6th. Winfield continued to lead through 2 legs at 4:04. Elkins remained in 2nd at 4:09. Frankfort was in 3rd at 4:14. Keyser was up to 4th at 4:17. I think it was PikeView (maybe Weir) in 5th at 4:19. I think Lincoln was in 6th at 4:25. Winfield continued to lead, coming through at 6:11. Elkins remained in 2nd at 6:18 with Frankfort in control of 3rd at 6:24. Weir was up to 4th at 6:32. Keyser was in 5th at 6:34. Lincoln was in 6th at 6:37 with East Fairmont in 7th at 6:38. In the end, the Winfield group of Landon Brumfield, Brody Miller, Trace Marshall, and Lincoln Haynes were not challenged and took the win in 8:14.64. Elkins easily held the 2nd spot in 8:21.03 with Frankfort easily in 3rd in 8:29.35. Everyone else was over 13 seconds behind. Weir took the 4th spot in 8:43.01. Lincoln claimed 5th in 8:46.10. PikeView moved up to 7th in 8:47.71. East Fairmont was 8th in 8:50.56, and Keyser took the final spot in 8:52.88.
RunWV's Current Score: 79 of 96.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Point Pleasant took over the race immediately, and sped away to the win by over 2.6 seconds with the unit of Reece Hunt, Cooper Tatterson, Evan Bailes, and Grant Barton scoring the win in 58.30. Lincoln took the 2nd spot in 1:00.92 with Keyser scoring 3rd in 1:01.23. Winfield took 4th from Heat 3 in 1:01.25. Oak Glen scored 5th from Heat 2 in 1:01.74, and Bluefield was a surprise 6th from Heat 1 in 1:02.82. Fairmont Senior was 7th from Heat 2 in 1:02.83, and Clay took the 8th spot in 1:03.30. One of my predicted placers was hit with a DQ and another fell a couple times.
RunWV's Current Score: 84 of 104.

High Jump
After falling to 3rd place by only clearing 6'0 on his 3rd attempt, Nicholas' Isaiah Miner scored the win by clearing 6'2 on his 1st attempt. No one else was able to clear the mark. Poca's Landon Coleman and Point Pleasant's Cooper Tatterson each cleared 6'0 on their 1st attemp with Coleman getting 2nd on total misses. Keyser's Grayson Lambka cleared 6'0 on his 3rd attempt to take 4th. No one else cleared 5'10.
RunWV's Current Score: 91 of 112.

Pole Vault
Berkeley Springs' cleared 11'0 on his 1st attempt, and then passed all the way to 13'0 in a risky move. He then missed on his 1st two attempts at 13'0. Sitting in 7th place, he cleared the bar on his 3rd attempt and was the only one able to clear that mark, shooting from 7th to 1st in a matter of seconds. Point Pleasant's Cohen McDaniel vauled cleanly all the way through 12'6 to take 2nd. Keyser's Tanner Detrik vaulted cleanly through 12'0 for 3rd. East Fairmont's Mason Devault cleared 12'0 on hist 1st attempt to take 4th. Point Pleasant's Gage Devault cleared 12'0 on his 3rd attempt to take 5th.
RunWV's Current Score: 99 of 120.

Long Jump
Poca's Landon Coleman sailed 20'7.75 on his 3rd attempt, and no one was able to match it in the finals. Lincoln's Liam Gallegher solidified his 2nd place standing on his final jump with a 20'6.25 leap. Nicholas' Isaiah Miner went 20'2.75 on his 3rd attempt for 3rd. Nitro's Eli Littlejohn went 20'2.25 on his 5th attempt to move into 4th. Lewis' Isaac Smith went 20'1.75 on his 3rd attempt and matched it on his 6th for 5th. My predicted winner fouled on all 3 attempts.
RunWV's Current Score: 106 of 128.

Shot Put
East Fairmont's Dakota Dammeyer threw 52'10.50 on his 1st attempt and no one was able to match that. He'd go on to go 54'2 on his 4th attempt to seal the deal as all 4 of his legal throws exceeded the 2nd placer person. Poca's Anthony Belcher sent his first attempt 51'7 to take 2nd. Weir's Anthony Zorbini threw 48'3.25 on his 2nd attempt for 3rd place. Point Pleasant's Caden Hill moved from 9th to 4th on his 5th attempt with a toss of 47'11. Philip Barbour's Keaton McDermott threw 47'7.50 on his 1st attempt to take 5th. Shady Spring's Gabe Knoblet moved from 8th to 6th with a 4th throw of 47'0.25.
RunWV's Current Score: 112 of 136.

Discus
East Fairmont's Dakota Dammeyer won the event on his 1st attempt but saved his best for last with a toss of 171'7 on his final attempt. That gives him the 7th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Poca's Anthony Belcher fouled his 1st two attempts and was still only in 5th place after 4 attempts. He moved into 4th on his 5th attempt, and then snagged 2nd place with his final toss of 152'0. Point Pleasant's Caden Hill scored 3rd with a 151'0 toss on his 2nd attempt. Weir's Anthony Zorbini was 4th on his 149'6 toss on his 3rd attempt (his only one over 130'0). Oak Glen's Alex Dennis threw 147'6 on his 3rd attempt to take 5th. No one else was within 11' of the top 5.
RunWV's Current Score: 118 of 144.

The final score of 118 of 144 means that 81.9% of the people picked to place did indeed place. That's 4 better than last year. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
